WANT TO BECOME A CARDED UMPIRE??

This year umpire clinics will be delivered ONLINE with a mantatory on-field session.

You must pre-register for an in-person clinic that fits your schedule.

To register for this course, please go to this link ( https://www.playoba.ca/certification-process ) follow this and choose either returning umpire or new umpire as the case may be. You will need to have the ONDECK (Baseball Ontario APP)  to register and complete your courses.

Returning Umpires will need to go to your "My Account"and update your profile.

When you have completed your 2023 Umpire clinic, Be sure to let us know so that we can be sure to have you on our 2023 UMPIRE list

Umpire screening (Adult Umpires)

 
Again for the 2022 season, adult umpires (18 and older) will have to complete additional requirements beyond certification in order to have their Baseball Ontario umpire card activated.

**If you opt to manage your screening through your local association, you will complete their Disclosure Form and submit your screening results (if needed) to them.

  • A VSC only ever needs to be completed once, and thereafter a CPIC or EPIC will be required when the next screening is due in 3 years. Any returning volunteer with a clear VSC in the past is only required to obtain a CPIC or EPIC.
    • Individuals born after February 28, 1986, (presently potential volunteers or employees under 35), do not need to complete a VSC, even if they are working with Vulnerable Individuals. (The date of birth belonging to the youngest person with a pardoned sexual offence is February 28, 1986.) Potential volunteers or employees under 35 still need to obtain an CPIC or EPIC if required by section 6 of this Baseball Ontario Screening Policy.
    • Individuals may only obtain a VSC by visiting an RCMP office or police station, submitting two pieces of government-issued identification (one of which must have a photo), and completing any required paperwork. Fees may also be required. Fingerprinting may be required if there is a positive match with the individual’s gender and birth date.
  • Umpires will fall into one of three risk categories (this is not the same as the level of umpire they are): 
Risk Level Description Requirements
Level 1 Risk: Umpires who are never alone with children or Vulnerable Individuals, and only interact on the field of play in the duty to the game

Level 2 Risk: Umpires in the Baseball Canada National Umpires Program (non-clinicians)
  1. Complete a Screening Disclosure Form
  2. Complete Safe Sport Module through Coaches Association of Canada
  3. Complete and provide a CPIC or EPIC
Level 3 Risk: Umpire Leaders (Umpire In Chief, Umpire Supervisor) who work with children under the age of 18
Baseball Ontario Umpire Clinicians
  1. Complete a Screening Disclosure Form
  2. Complete Safe Sport Module through Coaches Association of Canada
  3. Complete and provide a VSC or a CPIC/EPIC
